First and foremost, an adventurer needs the proper expertise to survive any expedition. Our programs equip CYC explorers with the know-how necessary for many of life’s adventures.

Book Club: Students read one-on-one with an adult reading tutor. Tutors help students develop literacy skills, a love of reading, and an awareness of writing techniques and authorial choice. Students get to select which book they will read and keep it when finished.
Creative Writing: Students explore various genres and techniques, learning about poetry, narrative, and nonfiction. Students who complete programming will be published in The Book of Explosions, the CYC’s annual anthology.

*Students have the option of registering for BOTH Book Club and Creative Writing, or for ONLY Creative Writing.
*To participate in Book Club, students MUST be able to arrive at the CYC by 3:30. MLK students will be picked up at school at dismissal by CYC staff and walk together to the CYC.
*Students unable to arrive by 3:30 are encouraged to participate in Creative Writing. Students MUST be able to arrive between 4:15 and 4:30 as writing time starts promptly at 4:30.
In Amplify and Craft, students explore multiple genres and writing topics as well as have the opportunity to engage in cross-genre collaborations with local artists. Students who complete programming will be published in The Book of Explosions, the CYC’s annual anthology. MLK Amplify students will be picked up at school at dismissal by CYC staff and walk to the CYC.
Amplify (6th-8th Grade): Thursday, 4:00-5:30
Craft (9th-12th Grade): Thursday, 5:45-7:15
Every August, you can expect a new adventure at the CYC. We explore new topics each year in short sessions geared toward a variety of age groups and interests. August workshops are a great way to see what the CYC is all about.
