Volunteers

Give your time by becoming a CYC Volunteer

It’s easy! Just complete the CYC Volunteer Interest Form and we’ll take it from there.

We accept volunteers 18+. We occasionally have project-based volunteer opportunities for youth. Prior to placement, all volunteers undergo a background check and informal interview with CYC staff.

All CYC program volunteers must have the ability to commit for the FULL school year and to maintain open and advance communication in the event of unavoidable absences. A mandatory orientation is held in August and mandatory trainings are held in September. Multiple dates are offered. Additional trainings and team meetings are held occasionally throughout the school year. Programming starts Monday, September 25 and runs through May.

Intern

Interns

As a CYC intern, you’ll gain valuable experience in program management, nonprofit administration, and writing/editing while simultaneously having outrageous amounts of fun. Internships are generally a minimum of 10 hours a week and are unpaid positions. Open internship positions are posted to our blog and advertised at area colleges and universities. To apply, please send a cover letter, resume, two references, and available weekday hours to Brianne Carpenter at brianne@creativeyouthcenter.org.

Tutors & Workshop Helpers

Reading Tutors

Afterschool Adventure Book Club // Mon, Tues, or Wed // 3:30-4:20

Reading tutors must LOVE reading, be excited about developing a one on one relationship with a student, and exhibit patience and encouragement. A creative writing or teaching background is not required but would be a boon. Your continued presence is what makes this program work!

Writing Workshop Leaders

Creative Writing Helpers

Afterschool Adventure // M,T, or W // 4:15-5:45   Amplify // Thursday // 4:00-5:45   Craft // Thursday // 5:45-7:30

A total of two volunteers are needed to work closely with our program staff in the creative writing portions of CYC programming. Writing volunteers must have both a teaching AND creative writing background, be comfortable instructing in a small group setting, and have the ability to draw from their own background in creative writing to help students grow as writers. Volunteers are expected to stay after programming for occasional 1-hour team meetings and trainings.

Love what we do but feeling a little unsure about a room full of energetic young authors? We may have some behind the scenes work that’s more your style. Fill out our CYC Interest Form and let us know what makes you tick.
