Fall 2014 Internship Opportunities

We are looking for some great interns to work during the fall 2014. Check out the available positions below.

Program Interns

As a Program Intern you will be a vital part of the Creative Youth Center. The Grand Rapids Creative Youth Center is a nonprofit writing and tutoring center in Grand Rapids, MI that prepares kids for life’s adventures by supporting their writing and amplifying their voices. This position will ideally assist in both our afterschool programs, Afterschool Adventure, and Thrive Tutoring. Afterschool Adventure serves students in a classroom setting, while Thrive pairs students one-on-one with a trained tutor. As an intern, you’ll gain valuable experience in program management and administration, lesson planning, and tutoring students.

We are looking for two interns to work a minimum of 10 hours a week each, during the Fall 2014 semester. Candidates must be available at least two days a week, Monday-Thursday, 3-5:30pm. This is an unpaid position, but can be done for college credit. Other benefits include:

  3. Working at Captain H. Tanny’s Adventure Trade and Supply Store

  4. Building relationships with really awesome kids

Necessary Qualifications:

  1. Must be a self-starter, comfortable with a great degree of independence

  2. Ability to adapt quickly and thrive in a role with constant changes

  3. Experience and interest in working with kids ages 6 to 18

  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  5. Editing/proofreading skills

  6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and Dropbox

  7. Creative problem solver

Publishing Intern

As a Publishing Intern you will be a vital part of the Creative Youth Center. The Grand Rapids Creative Youth Center is a nonprofit writing and tutoring center in Grand Rapids, MI that prepares kids for life’s adventures by supporting their writing and amplifying their voices. As an intern, you’ll gain valuable experience in editing and publishing as well as working with kids.

We are looking for an intern to work a minimum of 10 hours a week during the Fall 2014 semester to help with editing, typing, and publishing student work. This is an unpaid position, but can be done for college credit. Other benefits include:

  1. Hands on experience in editing, publishing, and nonprofit administration

  2. Having a ton of fun

  3. Working at Captain H. Tanny’s Adventure Trade and Supply Store

  4. Building relationships with really awesome kids

Necessary Qualifications:

  1. Strong editing/proofreading skills

  2. Comfortable writing and editing in a child or teen’s voice and diction

  3. Must be a self-starter, comfortable with a great degree of independence

  4. Ability to adapt quickly and thrive in a role with constant changes

  5. Experience and interest in working with kids ages 6 to 18

  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  7. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and Dropbox

  8. Creative problem solver

Nonprofit Management Intern

As the Nonprofit Management Intern you will be a vital part of the Creative Youth Center. The Grand Rapids Creative Youth Center prepares kids for life’s adventures by supporting their writing and amplifying their voices. Through our creative writing and tutoring programs, we help kids build the skills necessary for future success. At the CYC, kids become published authors, leading to a strong sense of identity and an enthusiasm for learning. As a CYC intern, you’ll gain valuable experience in grant writing, fundraising, nonprofit administration, event planning, and writing/editing.

We are looking for an intern to work a minimum of 10 hours a week during the Fall 2014 semester. This is an unpaid position, but can be done for college credit. Other benefits include:

  1. Hands on experience in most aspects of nonprofit management

  2. Having a ton of fun

  3. Working at Captain H. Tanny’s Adventure Trade and Supply Store
